Job Overview:
North Florida Oral and Facial Surgery is seeking a skilled and dedicated Dental Surgical Assistant to join our oral surgery practice. The Surgical Assistant will work closely with our oral surgeons to ensure smooth and efficient surgical procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dentistry and dental surgical assistance, exceptional organizational skills, and a commitment to providing the highest level of patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in Surgical Procedures: Provide direct assistance to the oral surgeons during surgical procedures, including but not limited to dental extractions, dental implants, bone grafting, and other oral surgeries.
- Prepare Operating Room: Set up and prepare surgical instruments, equipment, and materials needed for each procedure.
- Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for surgery by explaining procedures, ensuring they are comfortable, and addressing any questions or concerns.
- Sterilization: Maintain strict sterilization and infection control protocols for surgical instruments and equipment.
- Post-Operative Care: Assist with post-operative care instructions for patients and provide support as needed.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate patient records, including surgical notes, consent forms, and medical histories.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other members of the surgical team, including surgeons, nurses, and administrative staff, to ensure seamless patient care.
- Emergency Response: Assist in any emergency, following established protocols and procedures.
- Supply Management: Monitor inventory levels of surgical supplies and equipment and assist in ordering supplies as needed.
- Patient Communication: Communicate effectively with patients before, during, and after surgical procedures, providing reassurance and answering questions.
Requirements:
- Certification: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) preferred. DAANCE Certification is a plus!
- Experience: Previous experience working as a dental surgical assistant, preferably in oral surgery or a related field.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of dental surgical procedures, instruments, and equipment used in oral surgery.
- Organization: Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
- Communication: Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with patients and team members.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating professionalism with a positive, cheerful attitude.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous mindfulness and adherence to strict sterilization and infection control protocols.
- Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and work schedules, including occasional travel to any of our local offices.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move heavy equipment, and assist patients as needed.
- Ethics: Commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
