Position Summary: The full time, exempt position responsible for providing clinical dental services and preventive dental care to the PRHS patients of record. Responsible for personal full compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and clinic rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and the clinical provision of dental care as well as those relating to, but not limited to personnel issues, workplace safety, public health and confidentiality.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Maintain a clear line of communications, cooperation, and good morale in the Dental Clinic. Establish harmonious and positive working relationships with patients and staff.
2. Examines patients requesting care, diagnoses their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out appropriate dental treatment, or refers patients for specialty consultation and treatment in conformance with approved clinical policies.
3. Records patient chart notes with signature, as they occur in the patient's dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided. In addition, the Staff Dentist shall complete referrals, data collections and other records as required periodically by PRHS. Staff dentist will use approved IHS chart templates.
4. Services are limited to privileged services by provider.
5. Supervise dental staff in conjunction with Chief Dental Officer. Assists in review of dental staff and written or verbal discipline as needed. Reports to Chief Dental Officer and writes any incident reports regarding staff. Assists Chief Dental Officer in provider chart reviews.
6. Keep Chief Dental Officer abreast of current activities, situations, accomplishments, etc. in the Dental Department.
7. Assist in development of dental policies with the most current accepted professional standards and aide the Chief Dental Officer in their implementation. Upholds PRHS policies, and enforces them with patients as needed. Writes incident reports when required related to patient interactions.
8. Participates in short- and long-term program planning for the Dental Department including development of goals and objectives.
9. Keep current with new techniques and philosophies related to all aspects of dental field.
10. Actively attend general and dental staff meetings.
11. Ability to instruct Dental Assistants during procedures. Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and the orientation of the PRHS staff and community members as requested.
12. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Graduation from an ADA-accredited Dental School with DDS or D.M.D. degree.
2. Current Dental license.
3. Current DEA Certificate.
4. Maintain current Continuing Dental Education units.
5. Must be customer service oriented.
6. Possess a current CPR card.
7. At least one year professional or practical experience, internship, or residency training is preferred.
8. Must demonstrate proficient knowledge of dental principles, techniques, methods, and practices. Staff Dentist work and treatment plans will be reviewed by Chief Dental Officer. Must be within standard of care and appropriate for our clinic treatment goals.
9. Preference given to Native Americans in accordance with P.L. 93-638
10. Must be willing to submit to and pass pre-employment drug screening test and physical clearance exam.
