Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to inform treatment plans.
- Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency and patient experience.
- Take and interpret medical imaging such as X-rays, ensuring proper positioning and safety protocols are followed.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote lifelong dental health.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Follow strict infection control protocols, including aseptic techniques and sterilization procedures, to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Monitor patient vital signs during appointments and recognize signs that require immediate attention or referral.
- Review documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with dental terminology standards and medical coding requirements.
Experience
- Proven experience working in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry settings with a strong understanding of dental terminology and procedures.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix is highly preferred.
- Hands-on experience with chairside assisting, including pediatric dentistry procedures when applicable.
- Knowledge of infection control standards, aseptic techniques, anatomy knowledge, and medical imaging practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations, including pediatrics, demonstrating patience and professionalism.
- Previous dental office or clinic experience that demonstrates proficiency in documentation review, medical records management, and medical coding is advantageous.
- Certification in dental assisting or related fields is a plus; ongoing education in pediatric dentistry or advanced hygiene techniques is encouraged.
