Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Records Coordinator to manage and oversee the accurate documentation and maintenance of patient records within our healthcare facility. This position would report to the Medical Records Director for the center. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of medical documentation processes, EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems, and healthcare compliance standards. In this role, you will ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and accessibility of medical records, supporting clinical teams and administrative functions to deliver exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and update patient medical records with precision, ensuring completeness and accuracy in accordance with hospital policies and legal requirements.
- Utilize EMR systems (PointClickCare) to input, retrieve, and organize patient data efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to safeguard patient confidentiality and privacy at all times.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to facilitate accurate documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, and discharge summaries.
- Manage record requests for insurance purposes, legal inquiries, or other authorized entities while maintaining strict confidentiality protocols.
- Learn and complete 317 and PASSR.
- Assist in the coding process by applying ICD-10/ICD-9 codes accurately for billing and reporting purposes.
- Support audit activities by preparing and organizing medical records for review in accordance with regulatory standards.
Requirements
- Proven experience working with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic evaluation procedures.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and healthcare privacy standards.
- Prior experience in SNF, medical office, or hospital settings is highly desirable.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to ensure accurate recordkeeping.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse healthcare teams including nursing staff, physicians, and business office personnel.
- Experience handling sensitive information with discretion and professionalism. Additional Job Requirements
- Must have a valid State of Mississippi Nursing License
- Must pass a criminal background check required by the licensing agency
- Long term care experience preferred
- Experience with Point Click Care (PCC) is preferred but not required
- Medical Records certification such as CEHRS, RHIT, or RHIA is a plus.
