Assist the SEARHC Dental Division in delivering optimum age specific prevention and curative periodontal and dental care for the SEARHC patient population, perform hygiene services on patients of all ages, including special needs adults, maintain day-to day flow of the assigned clinic, including daily office oversight and provision of direction and guidance to staff as needed, oversee front desk operations including: patient registration, patient check-in and check-out, answering the clinic phone line, training and supervising Patient Access Representatives, provide direct supervision for the pediatric dental assistants and assist with career development of those employees. Maintain customer service standards of excellence with patients of all ages. Additional responsibilities may include conducting project work and other administrative duties as assigned by the manager or clinic director.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job
Provide age specific patient education in the prevention and control of oral disease stressing the importance of oral hygiene and home care. Counsel patients regarding nutrition.
Examine oral tissues, perform deep scaling, root planning, coronal polishing of teeth, and apply topical fluoride. Measure and mark periodontal pockets. Perform x-rays, record pulse, blood pressure and temperature.
Maintain hygienist supplies and instruments, including sterilization of instruments.
Coordinate and conduct dental prevention activities, including health fairs and Head Start clinics.
Oversee and ensure smooth day-to-day operation and clinical flow of the assigned clinic.
Assist the site director in developing and maintaining clinic schedules to ensure consistent clinic coverage and efficient patient scheduling.
Supervise front office support staff, including one-on-one meetings, training, and performance appraisals with all Patient Access Representatives (PARs) as assigned.
Work with site director and the dental operations team to improve front desk performance by providing feedback during brainstorming sessions. Responsible for ongoing input for front office policies, procedures, and systems to ensure the highest possible patient care is delivered. Run and review assigned weekly and monthly reports and discuss with site director.
Supervise dental assistants and assist in performance evaluation, promotion, termination, and retention activities.
Train and supervise dental assistants in the provision of expanded function duties, including coronal polishing on pediatric patients.
Ensure completion of assigned administrative work such as inputting IT tickets, work orders, building maintenance requests, vendor relations, and special projects as assigned.
Participate and present at departmental staff meetings.
Other related duties as assigned.
Additional Details:
Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required
Graduate of accredited Dental Hygiene Program
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Pass the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienist
Current Alaska State Dental Hygiene License
If Commissioned Officer, then current state dental hygiene license
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Anesthesia license preferred.
Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years
Manager Competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years
