Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all dental equipment is ready for procedures, including X-ray machines and 3D scanners.
- Assist dentists and hygienests chairside during a variety of treatments such as restorations, endodontics, prosthodontics, cleanings and pediatric dentistry.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring proper technique and patient safety in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) Dentrix , updating medical and dental histories accurately.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, post-treatment care, and explain procedures using clear dental terminology.
- Perform vital signs checks and monitor patient comfort throughout procedures, maintaining aseptic technique and infection control standards.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments with the dental receptionist, verifying insurance information, and managing medical documentation.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in dental assisting within a general dentistry or specialty setting such as prosthodontics or pediatrics.
- Proficiency with dental software systems including Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for managing medical records and coding.
- Knowledge of infection control protocols, aseptic techniques, and anatomy relevant to dental procedures.
- Ability to operate X-ray equipment safely while adhering to HIPAA guidelines for patient privacy.
- Familiarity with pediatric dentistry practices and working with children is a plus.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, medical terminology, and medical imaging techniques.
