The Dental Hygienist/ Surgical Assistant plays an important part in the success of the practice. The focus of the dental hygienist is working chairside to ensure patient comfort, care, and safety by partnering with the practice doctors to provide efficient periodontal surgery. Dental Hygienists play an essential role in patient education and preventative dental care while also working in partnership with our doctors. Key Responsibilities:
- Perform hygiene clinical procedures, including periodontal maintenance, scaling and root planing, sealants, fluoride, oral cancer screenings and x-rays
- Educate patients on the importance of oral hygiene, as well as instructions and demonstrations of effective oral hygiene methods
- Communicate with doctor where there are opportunities in patients for restorative and/or periodontal needs
- Obtain and review dental history and/or records from patient (review patient health history and care slips) and ensure health history is updated for all returning patients
- Maintain and sterilize equipment and operatories
Qualifications:
- Degree or certificate in Dental Hygiene from an accredited program and a valid state license
- X-Ray/Radiology Certification where state regulations specify
- Local Anesthesia/Nitrous Oxide certification where state regulations specify

Working Environment & Physical Requirements:
This is a clinical working environment where potential exposure to hazardous waste and blood-borne pathogens is possible. Requires prolonged periods of standing, sitting, leaning, and bending up to 8 hours a day. Will be required to carry, transport, and use tools and equipment. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
