Duties
- Prepare treatment areas with all necessary instruments and supplies, ensuring a sterile environment following aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
- Assist dentists during various procedures including restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, and pediatric treatments with precision and professionalism.
- Take and develop dental X-rays using advanced equipment like 3D scanners and medical imaging tools while maintaining patient safety standards.
- Record detailed medical and dental histories, vital signs, and medical documentation accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic.
- Manage patient flow by greeting patients as a dental receptionist, scheduling appointments, and updating medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Educate patients on dental terminology, post-treatment care, and preventive practices to promote oral health awareness.
- Support general dentistry procedures through four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency and comfort during treatments.
Skills
- Proficiency in dental assisting with knowledge of anatomy, dental terminology, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques.
- Experience operating EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for accurate medical documentation and record keeping.
- Ability to perform X-ray procedures safely while adhering to radiation safety standards; familiarity with 3D scanners is a plus.
- Strong understanding of pediatric dentistry principles to assist with children’s dental care comfortably.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and coding related to dental procedures for precise documentation.
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients of all ages, including pediatrics; capable of explaining procedures clearly.
