JOB SUMMARY

The Dental Department Manager drives the operation of the dental clinics, including the supervision and clinical oversight of dental coordinator, dental assistants, RDA, lead DA and hygienists. Establishes staff training requirements as well as facilitates completion of it. Management of patient concerns. They will be responsible for the efficiency of dental clinic operations including patient scheduling and ensuring adequate staffing levels for all dental staff as well as supply ordering and adhering to a budget. They are responsible for productivity and efficiency of the dental department by maximizing the schedule, decreasing the no-show rate. They will assist and work with the Dental Director in establishing specific goals; determining work procedures and expediting workflow; ensuring compliance with all operating policies and procedures and implementing standardization in HCHC. Provide daily reports and other periodic reports as required. They will act as a leader by building constructive relationships and supporting department leadership in developing, setting, and executing department goals and the strategic plan in accordance with the HCHC mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

· Build and execute plans to improve daily operations of the Dental Clinic ensuring maximum productivity, operational excellence & efficiency.

· Dental Manager provides leadership and support to dental assisting staffs, including but not limited to staff evaluations, coaching/counseling, motivate and inspire staffs to work as a cohesive and productive team.

· Recruitment, interviewing, onboarding /off boarding for Dental Support staffs.

· Coordinate interviews of support staff and Dentists for Dental Director.

· Oversee and approve timesheets for Dental support staff, including Lead DA/RDA, Dental Coordinators, Dental Assistants, and RDAs, in ADP.

· Oversee and Manage schedules, time-off requests, and coverage for Lead DA/RDA, Dental Coordinators, Dental Assistants, and RDAs

· Dental equipment maintenance coordination. Insures the sterility of all reusable dental instruments and equipment in accordance with Dental Department directives and protocols.

· Responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, including but not limited to OSHA, infection control, and verification logs.

· Audit preparation: including licensing, permitting, policies and procedures, workflow implementation, documentation (logs, sign offs, etc.), trainings.

· Insures the sterility of all reusable dental instruments and equipment in accordance with Dental Department directives and protocols.

· Maintain an operating environment that assures effective, efficient, safe operation of the Dental Department and respond to the patients' and dentists’ needs.

· Maintain and oversee maintenance of all dental equipment per manufacturer's guidelines and ensures records are logged appropriately.

· Oversee the timely procuring/maintenance of dental, office supplies and equipment with the Dental Director to ensure the availability of adequate equipment and supplies required to provide patient services.

· Ensure that processes required for efficient dental clinic operations have taken place prior to the arrival of the first patient.

· Collaborates with the Dental director, Quality Manager, and Director of Risk Management and Compliance to ensure high standards of patient safety are implemented. Reports any untoward events or hazards, participates in quality team meetings, and motivates staff to achieve clinical quality benchmarks.

· Responsible for creation and implementation of dental policies and procedures.

· Maintain records/documents in accordance with Dental Policies and Procedures, contractual obligations and funding sources.

· Assign workloads, develop priorities, and establish work schedules to ensure timely completion of tasks.

· Document disciplinary actions and/or counseling sessions in consultation with the Dental Director and Human Resources.

· Monitor strict adherence to universal precautions as established by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, DHS and the Dental Clinic.

· Promotes the practices of integration through warm handoffs to all departments (medical, dental, behavioral health, optometry, podiatry).

Has intricate knowledge of Denti-Cal covered and non-covered services and limits of services and guides Dental Front Office and Dental providers with regards to Denti-Cal Guidelines as we as all as other programs within the dental clinic such as DHSP/RWP, MHLA or any dental HMOs and/or Dental Commercial Insurances.
Works with Clinic Administrators to make sure that Medical Providers and Medical Staff are engaged with the SAME DAY Oral SCREENINGS process and ensure that Dental Screening opportunities are being optimized each day from the medical side. Encourage MEDICAL-DENTAL Integration and establishment of a Dental Home for Patients
Serves as a Registered Dental Assistant in clinic as assigned:
Prepare treatment room for patient.
Prepare patient for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting seating, and draping patient.
Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area; positioning instruments for dentist’s access; suctioning; passing instruments.
Provides materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the patient's mouth.
Provides diagnostic information by exposing and developing radiographic studies; pouring, trimming, and polishing study casts.
Educates patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative instructions.
Ensure operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirement; call for repairs, when necessary.
Maintain inventory of dental supplies and order supplies as needed.
Participate in all safety/compliance programs.
Promote patient satisfaction principles and foster an excellent environment for the patient and their family.
Cross- training with front office tasks like checking in patients, scheduling appointment, checking insurance.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required education, experience and/or training:

Minimum of 5 years of supervisory and/or managerial experience required.
Current and active RDA or RDAEF license from the Dental Board of California. Successfully complete Board-approved courses in radiation safety.
Successfully complete and show proof of a Board-approved course in Dental Practice Act, an eight (8) hour Board-approved course in infection control and proof of basic life support (CPR) card.
Submit fingerprint clearances from both the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigations.
Require knowledge of dental/office equipment, and dental/medical terminology.
5-7 years minimum experience as a dental assistant or registered dental assistant.
Must be able to communicate effectively, in English, both verbally and written.
Ability to work with diverse populations.
Treat all patients and colleagues with dignity and respect.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Legal authorization to work in the United States.
A valid California Driver's license with clean records and access to an insured automobile.
Clear all post offers, pre-employment background screening, and education verification.
Must be vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a qualifying medical/religious exemption.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
