The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony (RSIC) is a federally recognized tribal government dedicated to the economic and social advancement of its people. Established in the early 1900s and formally recognized under the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, the RSIC represents over 1,100 members of the Paiute, Shoshone, and Washoe Tribes—Three Tribes, One Nation. Our lands include the original 28-acre Colony in central west Reno and a 1,920-acre community in Hungry Valley, located 19 miles north of the Colony in the scenic Eagle Canyon region of Nevada. As a Full Time Staff Dentist at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, your primary role will be to deliver essential dental services, focusing on both preventive care and treatment for a diverse patient population. You will be responsible for examining, diagnosing, and treating common dental diseases while ensuring that the community has adequate access to high-quality dental care. Your tasks will include performing oral and radiographic examinations, restoring cavities, and administering anesthesia as needed. Additionally, you'll conduct uncomplicated extractions and manage prosthetic dentistry by crafting appropriate restorations, including crowns and dentures. With an emphasis on community health, you will also implement dental health programs aimed at oral disease prevention and patient education.
Your expertise will be crucial in managing the unique needs of patients, including those with behavioral challenges, fostering a supportive and caring environment in the health center.
To thrive as a Full Time Staff Dentist at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, candidates must possess a blend of technical expertise and interpersonal skills. A graduation from an accredited dental school in the United States is essential, alongside a valid dental license in Nevada or appointment through the USPHS/IHS. Success in this role requires the ability to work effectively in a diverse, minority environment, demonstrating cultural sensitivity while engaging with patients. Strong diagnostic and clinical skills are crucial for examining and treating various dental conditions, as is proficiency with dental tools and technology.
Additionally, candidates must provide evidence of a recent Infectious Pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB) test to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff. Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
